The parents in the survey revealed that they believe that creating computer games will be a more satisfying career route than traditional professions.

Conducted by Cartoon Network’s Imagination Studios, as part of their cartoon-making competition, the survey also revealed that computer games designer narrowly beat veterinary to the top post amongst 6 to 12 year olds.

When the parents were questioned about what job they would like their child to get into, 17 per cent said that they would be happy with computer game designer, beating becoming a scientist, a doctor or nurse and a teacher.

Perhaps most surprising, accountancy and law came at the bottom of the parent’s list of desired careers for their children – careers which were once a solid and well paid job.

The authors of the report believe that the approval of game design coincides with the introduction of coding to the national curriculum in the UK.

Despite the findings, two in five parents dread being asked to assist with their child’s computer homework.

Cartoon Network also uncovered that 6 3per cent of kids would rather draw than write.

When the children were asked “Which job from the list would you choose to do?”the top five responses were:

1.   Computer game designer - 19 per cent

2.   Vet - 16.4 per cent

3.   Scientist - 13.1 per cent
