Energy bills not understood by 1 in 5 business people in the North

A recent survey by Utilitywise has discovered that nearly 1 in 5 business people in the North West cannot comprehend their commercial utility Energy bills not understood by 1 in 5 business people in the Northbills.

The findings also showed that 61 per cent of business people did not know that ‘E’ and ‘A’ stood for ‘estimated’ and ‘actual’. As well as this, 29 per cent did not know what the term ‘unit’ meant.

The survey revealed that as many as 2.19 million businesses never or only occasionally check their utility bills.

Utilitywise also found that the problem is not just in relation to small and micro businesses, with businesses employing 50 to 249 people also reporting confusion surrounding their energy bills.

Of the business people surveyed, just 11 per cent said that they did not have enough time to check that their bill is right, despite 75 per cent of SMEs in the North West believing that they may too much for their utilities.

A further 22 per cent said that they trust that their bills will be accurate.

Utilitywise’s own data indicates that 60 per cent of businesses count on estimated bills.

Of the respondents, 50 per cent said that they feel that their energy bills will rise in the coming year.
