The respondents were also found to want the Welsh Government to pump more funds into bettering the energy efficiency of homes.

In the next few weeks, Carwyn Jones, Wales’ First Minister will release his Programme for Government, with the emphasis likely to be on how Wales will adjust to Britain’s departure from the European Union.

The WWF have called on the Welsh Government not to sideline investment for decreasing emissions and combatting climate change.

Anne Meikle, the Head of the WWF claimed that investing in future-proofing our homes will boost the economy by wasting less energy and creating jobs, all whilst reducing emissions.

She also added that Wales can be the pioneers in being a smart, forward-thinking and sustainable country, and the survey has proved that the public would like the Government to take the opportunity.

Of the 1,000 respondents in the survey, 65 per cent said that they would like the Welsh Government to spend more money on bettering the energy efficiency of homes in Wales to make sure than nobody is living in a home that is hard to warm up. A further 64 per cent said that they would like Wales to generate all of its electricity from renewable sources.

In addition, 62 per cent of the survey’s participants said that they would like the Government to do more to help residents heat their homes using renewables. Further to this, 59 per cent said that they would like the Welsh Government to spend money on initiatives that reduce emissions, such as affordable heat networks and public transport.
