The ‘Later life experiences and health in Wales’ survey
The research study is being undertaken by DJS Research Limited, (an independent market research company) on behalf of Public Health Wales NHS Trust and Bangor University, in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University.
This study has been designed to provide knowledge on later life experiences in Wales. The study will help us understand the effects that the experience of adversities in later life (since the age of 60) such as maltreatment or discrimination can have on our health and wellbeing. The study is important as it will improve understanding of how we can better support older members of our society.
Households are being randomly selected for inclusion in the study. Residents of selected households aged 60 years and older are being invited to take part in the study. Only one person from each selected household can take part.
The questionnaire should take around 20 minutes to complete.
Trained researchers from DJS Research Limited will help participants fill out the questionnaire. Individuals will be able to complete any sensitive questions themselves without the researcher or anyone else seeing their answers.
The questionnaire will ask some general information, such as age, employment status and family structure. It will then ask questions about health and health care, receiving and giving care, and experiences in later life. These include sensitive questions about experience of maltreatment, discrimination, or thoughts of suicide. These questions can be answered privately.
Trained researchers from DJS Research Limited will treat you fairly and with respect.
