Rachel graduated from the University of Sheffield in 1994 with a LLB in Law, having completed a year’s Erasmus exchange at the University of Tilburg, Holland, in European Studies.

Before joining DJS, Rachel mainly worked in the charity and adult education sectors, developing charitable community projects including acting as local liaison on a Government evaluation research pilot offering additional support to local parents.  Rachel has also worked in the adult education sector, both as a learning support assistant and also in programme development, working on new courses designed to encourage adults with mental health issues back into learning, as part of Derbyshire County Council’s Bright Side programme.

Over recent years, Rachel has also raised a family.  In 2019, as a result of her increased interest in research, and to develop new skills and move into the research field, she decided to return to education part-time to study a Masters in Research (MRes) in Criminology at the University of Manchester.  Rachel recently completed the research methodology elements of the MRes (qualitative and quantitative data analysis).

Rachel started at DJS in February as a Research Assistant and is very much looking forward to applying her studies while developing new skills and knowledge in research at DJS.
