Alexandra graduated from the University of Lancaster in 1993 with a BSc hons in Psychology. She subsequently worked in London, in a variety of fashion retail head offices including River Island, Bentalls, Racing Green and Hawkshead. She was latterly Merchandiser for the mail order company, Boden, where her job involved statistical analysis and planning. Alexandra moved away from London in 2002, and took a career break to raise a family.  During this time, Alex also trained to become a counsellor, and qualified in 2010.

As a result of her business background and personal life, Alex has a particular interest in retail (both home shopping and store) and health, and has worked on projects involving home shopping delivery experiences and NHS surveys (cancer awareness / weight measurement programs).

She also has a particular interest in projects that involve speaking with children and young people, and being a parent enables Alex to work effectively with them, being able to understand and anticipate their whims and fancies!  Alex has managed numerous projects in this dynamic sector, the most recent involving focus groups with children aged between 6 and 11 for a major US toy manufacturer and retailer. Alex also regularly attends relevant MRS events, including the Kids and Youth Research conference in London.  She had this to say about a recent conference:

“It was fascinating, not only to be able to meet other people working in research with children, but to hear what experts in this sector had to say.  I have come back with lots of ideas for DJS that I am looking forward to discussing and implementing with the wider team moving forward."

As well as her degree, Alex holds the MRS Advanced Certificate in Market and Social Research Practice.
