Paid focus groups

Focus groups are a research method which involves the use of participants in a roundtable-like discussion where opinions can be expressed regarding a certain product or service. This can then be used to make almost immediate adjustments.

Researchers will choose the target population and can do so selectively, meaning more valuable data will be collected. The nature of being involved in a discussion with other people can make the respondents feel more relaxed, meaning more personal responses and thoughts are expressed. This is important to understand the feelings the participants have for the product or service.

The qualitative nature of focus groups makes them ideal for market research as it allows for in-depth data to be collected from a variety of different people. The paid aspect of focus groups ensures participants are fairly compensated for their time and effort.
