Bridging the Gap - consultation and creativity combined

11th December 2024 23:20

Earlier this year our Research and Creative Services teams worked on a hugely rewarding project for We Are Undefeatable, a collective movement supported by 15 leading health and social care charities to support people living with long term health conditions (LTHC).

This short piece outlines the core components of this collaborative process, shining a light on objectives of the consultation, and supporting panel survey, and the engaging creative outputs designed by our in-house team.

The public consultation

We Are Undefeatable (WAU) has an ambition to create the ultimate resource to inspire and support people with long term health conditions (LTHC) to be active. It aims to establish a self-sustaining online and offline community for people with LTHC, and their enablers, and seeks to promote physical activity and change mindsets.

As part of this development, the WAU team required an inclusive, England-wide, public consultation to gather input from multiple audiences – the ‘Big Talk’ consultation was born. As well as building momentum around the physical activity agenda among stakeholders, the consultation also aimed to generate input for the future of WAU. The overarching objective of the public consultation was to gain insights that would shape the level of resource invested into campaign in the future.

Between 4th-30th September 2023, our Research team hosted a public consultation which was promoted to people living with LTHC, their family, friends and carers as well as professional audiences. Alongside this open consultation, we conducted an online panel survey to boost samples of key targeted audiences including healthcare decision makers, healthcare professionals, activity sector staff, and Government and/or Local Authority staff. Overall, 2,241 responses were obtained, generating a wealthy of insight, which came together to form the 'Bridging the Gap' report, published in May this year.

The creative magic

With so much useful insight to disseminate after the research stage WAU decided to commission our Creative Service team to create a comprehensive communications pack. Inspired by examples of the teams’ work, specifically noted a recent report designed for Active Pregnancy Foundation: we booked in a creative briefing meeting.

Working with the established WAU brand guidelines, assets and photography, our Creative Services team started the project by designing the 48-page main report, authored by the WAU team. In addition to an interactive PDF for online, a small print-run was produced specifically for Peter Dutton, Activation Manager at WAU, to take to parliament - getting physical copies directly into the right hands. You can see the full report here.

Other core pieces of collateral produced included a one-page executive summary, in a scrollable infographic format, highlighting the report’s key findings in a visual engaging way. This infographic also formed the basis for a series of social media post graphics to convey the report headlines to a wider audience and to carry the conversation going for months to come; the visuals included animation which really made the stats pop!

Behind the scenes, for internal use, a branded PowerPoint template was also devised for the team to create visually appealing outputs of some of the other research findings, giving the look and feel of the project longevity and allowing the WAU team the freedom to expand upon the project.

Steph Skupien, Head of Creative Services at DJS Research, shared a few words about the experience: "It was a real pleasure working with the team at We Are Undefeatable on such a meaningful report. Their brand assets and guidelines were an absolutely joy to work with too and visually speaking, the results speak for themselves".
