According to the 3,500 people polled across 165 websites, half of the nation considers fish and chips to be the most British dish for street parties.

This indicates that record amounts of fish and chips will be consumed this Bank Holiday weekend to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations - if the Britons who took part in the survey represent the nation, as many as 36 million people are predicted to be tucking into this long-standing English favourite.

Nevertheless, with Prince Charles recently campaigning to promote more sustainable fishing methods – people are advised to try a fried fillet other than cod.

The poll also revealed that more than a quarter of the nation will be toasting the Queen with a good cup of tea - Brits are expected to sip more than 115,000 cuppa’s every minute over the Diamond Jubilee weekend.
