A new poll by travel search website Skyscanner has uncovered the nation’s best and worst airports over the last 12 months when it comes to being made to feel welcome.

Luton in Bedfordshire was given the dubious title of the UK's most unfriendly airport when travellers rated their staff.

On a scale of one being the rudest and ten being the friendliest, Luton scored only 5.76 points. Stansted came in a close second with the second rudest score of 5.89 points, followed by Heathrow (5.94), Gatwick (6.26) and Birmingham (6.39) to round off the Top 5 worst performers.

In contrast, Edinburgh was found to be the most welcoming UK airport with a rating of 7.41 points, followed by Newcastle as the next most-friendly (7.34) then Manchester (6.87).

The respondents’ complaints about members of staff included abrupt responses to a simple inquiry, endless queues and manhandling at security.

In addition, the poll measured the traveller ratings of airports across Europe. Paris was voted the rudest with a score of only 4.86 points, followed by Moscow (5.03) and Istanbul (5.91).

The two friendliest European airports were found to be Copenhagen (7.08) and Amsterdam (6.92).
