DJS Researchers Take On Tatton Triathlon For Charity

18th August 2011 17:41

On Sunday September 11th 2011 three researchers from DJS Research Ltd will take part in the Tatton Park Triathlon. The event follows the Olympic specification and consists of a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and a 10km run. The three person DJS team, includes Kate Slater (Associate Director) and James Hinde (Research Director). Simon Butcher, who until recently was a key part of the DJS data services team, completes the line-up.

Kate, Simon and James are hoping to raise a minimum of £2000 which will be split between two charities which are very close to staff at DJS Research Ltd – CLIC Sargent and Missing People. CLIC Sargent is a charity which seeks to help children suffering from cancer and the family members affected by this; Missing People work with the people left behind when someone close to them goes missing, they also aid in the search to find them again. Kate Slater explained the company’s choice of charities in the following way:

“Obviously we wanted to raise money for a great cause, and it’s hard to pick just one so we opted to go for two and split what we raise. I think the choices say a lot about the people at DJS, they’re both choices that are close to the hearts of DJS employees - but they’re also choices that we feel anyone should be able to relate to. What’s more, the charities are both action-orientated; they’re doing things on the ground to improve people’s lives – which is something we really wanted to emphasise.”

The team also have further reason for competition as they will be up against a group from rival agency Join The Dots (previously Virtual Surveys). However, James Hinde played down the rivalry:

“At the end of the day it’s always interesting to be involved with people from within the industry, there’s always that little bit of competition – but this is all about raising money for our two charities. If we can beat the guys from Join The Dots at the same time, then that will be an added bonus, but we just want to do the best we can and make sure we raise as much money as we can for these great organisations.”
