York has been voted as both the most beautiful city in the UK and as the place most Brits would love to live, according to a new survey by search engine Bing.

Councillor John Galvin, York's Deputy Lord Mayor, commented: “I'm not surprised by the results. I've been here 21 years and it might sound cheesy but it really is a fantastic place to live... People here are very open, welcoming and friendly.”

Bath was voted as the second most beautiful city, followed by Edinburgh, London and Oxford in fifth position.

When it comes to the runners up for top UK cities to live in, Bath also ranked second in this category, with the seaside city of Brighton and Hove at third place, Edinburgh fourth and Truro in Cornwall fifth.

The study of favourite regions in the UK also found Britons are far more likely to move for a better, less stressful quality of life, with 50% choosing the countryside and 30% opting for the beach, compared to 23% who selected city living.

A total of 70% of the Britons surveyed however said they would not leave the region they currently live in, claiming they would rather move to another town in the same area.
