Back of a man90% of UK workforce feel disengaged, finds survey: A recent survey by Gallup has found that 90% of the UK workforce feel disengaged, ranking as one of the least engaged workforces across Europe.

The UK ranked 33rd out of 38 countries, with only a 1% increase from the data found last year. Italy (95%) and France (93%) were found to have the least engaged workforces, according to the findings.

Romania ranked highest, with more than a third (35%) of their workforce engaged, while Romania was also the only country to have a percentage over 30 out of the 38 European countries assessed.

The annual ‘State of the Global Workplace’ research surveys workers in many countries around the world, examining how employees feel about their work and their lives.  As well as engagement figures, the survey also investigates stress, anger, and job situations.

Stress and Anger

More findings from the survey revealed that 38% of the UK workforce is experiencing stress daily, a 2% decrease since last year. This sees the UK rank in 16th position. Latvia was best ranked, with only 22% of their working population saying they feel stress daily. Additionally, 19% of UK workers have reportedly felt angry at work, putting the UK above the European average of 14%. All the Scandinavian countries polled ranked below 12%, with lower levels of anger collectively than their neighbours across Europe.

Speaking about the report’s findings, Gallup partner, Anna Sawyer said: “The UK continues to perform poorly on employee engagement. To tackle widespread disengagement, businesses need to be championing employees and giving them the right tools and resources to be productive and purposeful.”
