55% of Britons would vote to remain in the EU if there was another referendum: A survey from YouGov has found that over 1 in 2 (55%) Britons would vote to remain in the European Union if there was another EU referendum, with 31% saying they would leave.

The survey, conducted by YouGov compared the results of the most recent survey (2023) to the results from 2021 when they asked the same question to the UK public. Two years ago, 37% of Brits said they would leave - a 6 percentage point decrease in the past 2 years.

Leave Voters

The 2023 research also found that only 73% of people who originally voted to leave the EU in 2016 still want to leave. This represents an 8% decrease from the 2021 results where 81% still wanted to leave. The results also highlight that more than 1 in 6 (18%) Leave voters would now remain if there was another referendum, a 9% increase from when the same question was asked in 2021.

‘Bregret’

At this time, we are seeing the highest level of ‘Bregret’ in the UK, according to the survey. Currently, 57% of Brits say we were wrong to exit the EU, which is the highest figure YouGov has recorded to date. Around 1 in 3 respondents (32%) believe that the decision to leave was the correct call, while 19% of Leave voters have conceded that it was the wrong decision.
