Giving remains stable with approximately three quarters of the public donating to charity in the last 3 months, new research finds: Almost three quarters (73%) of the public have given to charity in the last 3 months, which is more or less in line with last year’s 75% showing donations remain stable among the UK public.
RedFox Research were commissioned by Enthuse, who are an online donation, fundraising and events platform, to conduct the 17th edition of their quarterly Donor Pulse survey, first launched in 2020. In May, a nationally representative sample of 2000 UK adults completed the survey. The research aims to track public attitudes towards charities as well as rates of donation and economic factors affecting people’s ability and decision to donate.
The amount of money given to charities looks to remain steady for the near future with just over four fifths (82%) of people stating they are just as – if not more likely – to donate in the next three months. The report suggests that this has been made possible by improvements in the public’s general finances and, more specifically, an increase in levels of disposable income. Almost a quarter (23%) of respondents said they feel better off financially compared to six months ago, an increase of 10% compared to the same wave in 2022 (13%). Despite just over a third of people (34%) saying they feel worse off, this figure is also a vast improvement on 3 years ago where almost two thirds (58%) expressed this same negative sentiment.
Not only can people increasingly afford to donate, but the report also reveals that more people also want to contribute due to improving public opinions on charities. Trust in charitable organisations is at a good level with three quarters (75%) of surveyed respondents saying they have moderate to high trust in them, up from 73% in the same wave in 2024. Respondents also view the work of charities as either very important or essential, with four fifths of people reportedly valuing their role in society.
