Research finds not-for-profit employees are the least likely to use AI in the workplace

Not-for-profit employees least likely to use to use AI in the workplace: New research by The Access Group has found that not-for-profit (NFP) employees are the least likely to use AI in the workplace. Out of the 12 sectors involved in the research, NFP ranked the lowest for AI usage, with only 29% of NFP respondents saying they use AI at work. Additionally, respondents from the NFP sector felt the most secure in their jobs, expressing the least concern among all sectors about AI replacing their roles.
The research was conducted by The Access Group, a leading provider of business management software – they provide solutions that empower over 100,000 organisations in commercial and NFP sectors across Europe, USA, and APAC. The survey by Access Group was conducted throughout September 2024, receiving 1,134 responses from employees who handle data for the company they work for. Employees from 12 different sectors were asked to share how AI has impacted the quality of their work, their time, and wellbeing.
The health and social care sector also ranked very low in the survey, with only 30% of saying they use AI at work. The public sector industry was also low, at 35%. On the other hand, almost three-quarters (74%) of respondents who said they work in the IT/technology sector use AI in their work, which is expected as companies in this area are likely to have the necessary resources and tools needed to encorporate AI into their work.
Other findings from the research highlighted that the majority (65%) of respondents said they would happily tell their boss they are using AI, but 35% of the survey respondents admit to using AI in a way they wouldn’t tell their boss about. This figure jumps up to 55% for 18–29-year-olds, as they are likely to be more familiar with the capabilities of AI and what it can and can’t do.
