Half of secondary school teachers say they did not go on a school trip in the last academic year: A survey has uncovered that half of secondary school teachers did not go on a school trip over the last 12 months; compared to just 15% of primary school teachers. Furthermore, just one in 10 of primary and secondary school teachers don’t enjoy going on trips, according to the findings.
The study by TeacherTapp recently polled teachers of all age groups in the UK in an attempt to find out more about the last academic year. The survey found that 82% of primary school teachers enjoy going school trips, with 9% saying they aren’t sure.
When asked about their views on teacher salaries, just 1% said teachers are paid the right amount, with 8% saying their wages should be increased by over 12%. In addition, a third of participants said a 4-6% increase would be right.
The results were slightly different when the participants were given a bit of context around teacher’s wages, with four in 10 saying pay should be increased by 10-12% - the expected rate of inflation.
The study also asked primary school teachers, which exams they would scrap, with just over four in 10 saying they would remove Year 6 SATs. Furthermore, a higher percentage of headteachers said they would scrap EYFS baseline tests (21%) than classroom teachers (15%).
Like most professions, many teachers hold meetings within their department; however, on average 4% stated they do not have regular meetings. On the other hand, a third of Science, Maths and English teachers said they hold meetings within their department, every week.
Teachers of creative subjects, such as Art or Design and Technology, are less likely to meet, found the survey, with 6% saying they do not hold department meetings.
