User-generated entertainment and lifestyle ratings website Zagat has today released the findings of their annual London Restaurants Survey.

A total of 5,497 diners were surveyed, and the study also included ratings and reviews of 1,187 restaurants in Greater London.

The Most Popular Restaurant title this year went to The Wolseley in Picadilly, while The Ledbury in Notting Hill was again given the Top Food award.

Dinner, by Heston Blumenthal, was crowned Top Newcomer, while Sketch – The Lecture Room & Library won the top Décor title and Waterside Inn by the Thames ranked highest in the Service category.

When it comes to the main gripes that customers have when dining, bad service came first at 73%, followed by unreasonable prices, noise and disappointing food.

In addition, 53% found texting, tweeting or taking telephone calls while eating out to be “rude and inappropriate”, whereas 74% consider taking photographs at the table completely acceptable.

Further findings revealed that the cost of dining in the capital has increased by 6.3% to £43.40 per person (including a drink and service), compared to £40.84 last year. Despite this however, dining out is on the rise, with Londoners now doing so 2.4 times per week on average, versus 2.2. times per week in 2010.
