Public responds positively to the NHS 10 Year Health Plan, but worries about patient access to NHS appointments persist, according to new research: A recent poll suggests that British adults have responded positively to the government’s 10 Year Health Plan with over a third (35%) believing it will improve conditions for patients, while less than one in ten (9%) think it will make things worse.

The research, carried out by IPSOS, surveyed a representative sample of 1,023 adults aged 18-75 in Great Britain between the 9th and 10th of July 2025. In addition to assessing whether respondents thought the 10 Year Plan would benefit or make things worse for patients, they were asked whether they believed it would improve access to GP appointments and reduce hospital waiting times, as well as their support for various proposals to reform the NHS.

Although the findings suggest the public generally supports the plan overall, confidence that it will address some of the key areas of concern within the NHS is less assured. Less than a third (29%) of respondents believe it will make obtaining GP appointments easier. Furthermore, only 30% think A&E waiting times will improve, and just a third (34%) expect waiting times for routine hospital appointments to decrease. In all three areas, respondents were more likely to believe the plan would make no difference, indicating that the public may need more convincing.

On a more positive note, respondents broadly supported most of the plan's key proposals to reform the NHS. The most popular proposals among those surveyed include creating a single patient record (84%), establishing neighbourhood health centres (73%), increasing use of the NHS App (73%) and expanding mental health support in schools and colleges (72%).
