27 percent of technical and business professionals believe that they are “advanced” in their digital transformations: A survey of technical and business professionals has revealed that just over a quarter believe they are at an advanced stage in their organisation's digital transformation.
The survey polled 3,000 technical and business professionals from companies who turn over more than £500 million. It was conducted by IBM to find out where industries stand when it comes to cloud architecture.
The report titled A comparative look at enterprise cloud strategy: IBM Transformation Index: State of Cloud found that there is an understanding that a hybrid cloud environment is the future, with seven out of 10 respondents agreeing that the full potential of a digital transformation could not be reached without a hybrid cloud strategy (71%).
Looking at the numbers which are already using a hybrid strategy the research found that more than half are (56%).The next leading category was multicloud, with almost a third of participants using this strategy (31%).
The survey revealed that almost nine in 10 companies feel they have achieved at least the initial benefits of the cloud (86%), but still have a long way to go before getting the most out of their cloud strategies.
Challenges identified that are preventing full transition to the cloud included security, management, regulatory compliance, issue resolution, cost consideration and customer preferences.
Security
The survey revealed that many respondents had concerns over security with both hybrid and multicloud environments, with more than three in 10 saying security was a top barrier to integrating workloads.
One of the man barriers preventing businesses from migrating their entire business to the cloud was, indeed, cybersecurity.
More than half the respondents polled said that public cloud options are not secure enough for their data.
