31% of UK workers believe AI is a threat to most jobs, survey finds: According to new research by The HR Director, nearly a third (31%) of UK workers believe that AI (artificial intelligence) is a threat to most jobs, with 67% believing that AI will replace some jobs but not all of them. Just 3% believe AI 'will not replace anybody's jobs'.
The HR Director, a magazine dedicated to HR, conducted the survey to explore employees’ perspectives on AI and its implications for our future jobs. Over 1,000 office workers in the UK took part in the survey and were quizzed about their concerns, spending patterns, and examples of using AI in the workplace. Out of the 1000-plus participants surveyed, 96.46% said ‘yes’ they know what AI is, with only 0.79% answering ‘no’. Around 3% said they have heard of it but aren’t sure.
Further findings revealed that 89% of respondents said they currently use AI in their business or at their workplace, with just 5% saying they do not use it at all, and 6% revealing they are looking to start incorporating it into their work.
Age and Gender
There seems to be a similar trend regarding which age group uses AI the most. Out of the participants who said they currently use AI at work, 71% were aged between 18-34. Of the respondents who said they do not use AI, 57% were over 35 years old, showing that the younger generation is adopting the use of AI technology more. The results were similar when investigating the ages of the respondents who said ‘yes’ they have heard of AI, as 69% were between 18-34 years old.
The survey also investigated which gender currently uses AI in their workplace the most. Almost three-quarters (75%) of those who said they currently use AI were male, whilst 68% of people who stated they do not use AI were female. However, 65% of the people looking to start incorporating it into their work were female, according to the research.
