85% of employees want to see better ways for them to collaborate with colleagues via technology, finds survey

85% of employees want to see better ways for them to collaborate with colleagues via technology: In an age where more and more people are working remotely, research by Microsoft has found that 85% of employees want to see better ways for them to collaborate with colleagues via technology.
A survey looking at business trends questioned 2,700 employees and 1,800 business decision makers in the US, the UK and Japan to understand more about the ways technology is used to perform tasks and what people want and need to help them in their daily work lives.
The research surveyed people across a range of job functions and industries — from marketing, sales, and customer service to finance, supply chain, and IT, and working in office-based, hybrid and remote settings.
The survey found that almost six in 10 respondents feel that their collaboration tools are not aligned with how their teams prefer to work, with 72% saying they would like collaboration tools that are compatible with one another, because when they are fragmented it can be challenging to work together. Furthermore, 64% reported that the tools they currently use do not integrate with their organisation's existing processes (such as sales, marketing and finance software).
Access to low-code tools
The research also found that more than three-quarters of employees surveyed (77%) wish they had more access to low-code tools or platforms that would help support them in solving their own problems, for example, automating processes and reducing repetitive tasks. More than eight in 10 participants said that low-code tools have enabled them to become more self-sufficient in areas which would have needed a team of developers previously (81%).
Business decision makers also see the high value in low-code tools, found the survey, with 46% strongly agreeing that they have given employees the opportunity to play more of a direct role in the company's digital evolution.
Also revealed by the survey was that almost nine in 10 respondents who use automation and AI-powered tools feel more fulfilled as they can ‘spend time on work that truly matters’ (89%). A similar percentage (88%) also believe that having the function to automate tasks helps them 'work more seamlessly with other teams'.
