Eight in 10 IT decision-makers believe their IT department is adequately supporting remote workers: A survey of IT decision makers at organisations in Ireland has revealed that 81% believe that their company is adequately supporting its remote and hybrid workers in terms of their IT needs.
The Modern Workplace Report 2023 by Storm Technology also found that two in five IT leaders believe their company will be 100% remote in the future, although almost two-thirds (63%) said that currently, they do not believe their organisation is using remote and hybrid working solutions to their full potential. The research also found that almost six in 10 do not believe that virtual methods of communication serve as a replacement for face-to-face interaction with colleagues (58%).
When asked about the challenges of remote and hybrid working, 42% of respondents cited supporting company culture -- the top answer given, with other challenges including 'secure access to company systems and information' (39%), 'training staff to use existing technologies to the fullest' (39%), 'enabling collaboration across locations' (35%) and 'managing remote devices' (31%).
Looking again at company culture, just over a third of leaders (35%) said that remote and hybrid working has had a positive impact on company culture. Respondents, however, were more positive about its impact on wellbeing, with 80% saying they believe remote/hybrid working has been largely positive in this area. Other areas where respondents believe that hybrid or remote working has had a positive impact included 'employee experience' (77%) and business growth (69%). When it came to attracting and retaining employees, just over half (54%) said they believe working remotely has been positive for business.
In addition, the survey revealed that a quarter of IT decision makers cited 'securing communication platforms' as an obstacle to communications, while 17% said that their impaired ability to share information was also a barrier.
Mike Lillis, Chief Commercial Officer at Storm Technology, said: “If companies are to make remote and hybrid working a success, they need both the technology and the strategy in place. If people lack the means and knowledge to collaborate, they cannot work effectively.”
