European Survey Finds Businesses Keen on IT Investment to Boost Growth
February 2013 - Information Technology
A Europe-wide survey of 6,656 IT and business decision-makers from 22 countries by Vanson Bourne has discovered that IT is a key driver of growth, with cloud and Big Data amongst the primary areas earmarked for firms to invest in.
Three out of five of the businesses surveyed said they will change their IT function over the next 12 months, and 40% ranked the development of new products as a top business priority.
In addition to most respondents seeing Big Data as a major player moving forwards, more than half of the organisations (56%) agreed that cloud computing is creating new roles and responsibilities for IT staff.
Developed markets are predicted to be less likely to reap the benefits of Big Data however, as almost half (48%) of those who took part in the study had no plans to deploy big analytics programmes, compared with 33% in emerging markets.
Adrian McDonald, EMEA President at EMC, commented on the findings: “Businesses surveyed across the region are actively targeting growth and are increasingly using their IT function to enable this. Where once IT was a cost centre, it is now becoming a strategic profit centre.”
