Half UK companies are seeking to hire more IT professionals: A survey of UK companies has found that nearly half (46%) have plans to hire more IT staff, with 45% saying they are looking to recruit new tech staff in the next year.

The survey, by Studio Graphene, a London-based digital agency, polled 752 senior decision makers, and also found that almost half admitted that development costs have been a barrier to upgrading their firm's technology over the past year. This includes making any changes or updates to the company website or app.

Almost half the respondents polled also said that a previous poor experience with a new technology or vendor has held them back from investing in other projects or implementing new solutions.

Conducted in January 2022, it also found that digital transformation is a priority for many companies this year (50%), while a similar proportion said that their business is looking to launch new digital projects, or tools in 2023.

Respondents were asked about how they would measure any successes when it comes to future digital transformation projects, with  51% saying that the key benchmark would be return on investment. This was important to almost three-quarters (73%) of companies employing 100-500 staff (73%), compared to 44% of smaller firms employing one - 49 staff.

Ritam Gandhi, founder and director of Studio Graphene, said of the findings:

“It is a shame that so many UK businesses have been stung by poor experiences with new technologies, or vendors that do not live up to expectations. Clearly, it is acting as a barrier preventing many companies from embracing digital transformation.”
