On average, employees lose 54 minutes of work time every week due to IT issues: A survey into how companies use digital infrastructure in the workplace has uncovered that their employees lose an average of 54 minutes per week of work time because of tech problems.
The Lakeside Software study polled 600 executives, IT leaders and employees about how their workplace implements technology. Over the past two years, remote working has become an important part of ‘office’ life, prompting an increasing number of employers questioning the productivity of remote working.
When looking at DEX (digital employee experience), the survey found that just one in five executive leaders believe there needs to be major improvements to DEX. In addition, 52% stated that DEX is important and should be a top priority for management.
Furthermore, 57% of executives and IT leaders said that their companies are in the early stages of measuring and managing DEX, with a further 35% stating they have not started measuring it at all.
Executive leaders may be underestimating the importance of digital employee experience, suggests the findings, with 36% of employees saying they had considered leaving due to the issue; with 14% saying they already had.
When asked about how much downtime their company experienced each week, it was found that organisations with high levels of DEX encounter an average of 30 minutes per week. On the other hand, companies with lower levels of DEX experienced almost three times as much downtime (128 minutes) per week.
Traci Palmer, Vice President of People and Organization Capability for Citrix, said: “Work and the office used to be synonymous. But work isn’t a place anymore. It is wherever people perform at their best. And that can be at home, in the office, on the road, and anywhere in between. Companies need to recognize this, and instead of focusing on physical office locations, create work-from-anywhere experiences powered by digital workspace solutions.”
