One in five oil and gas workers say their employers are not doing enough to enable the energy transition: A survey of energy professionals has revealed that 21% of oil and gas respondents believe their employer is not doing enough to support the energy transition, which could "harm efforts to attract and retain an increasingly ESG-conscious workforce," according to Airswift who commissioned the research.

The survey polled more than 10,000 energy professionals and hiring managers across oil and gas, nuclear, renewables and petrochemicals. It found that just under half of oil and gas professionals (48%) reported that their company has reduced operation emissions or fossil fuel emissions, while just over a quarter (27%) said their company has significantly reduced them.

The survey also asked respondents if their role has changed as a result of their company's energy transition, with 38% saying 'yes' and that they enjoy it more as a result, while 15% said it has changed and they enjoy it the same amount as before. Furthermore, 16% said that their role has changed and they enjoy it less. Almost a third of respondents, however, said they have not seen a change to their role as a result of the energy transition (31%).

When asked about how well they feel their company listens to their views and values -- and how those views influence company policy, 45% of oil and gas professionals feel that the concerns raised by themselves and their colleagues are listened to and acted on, while 38% said they believe they are listened to but they do not have an impact on company policy. Furthermore, 17% of survey participants said that they do not feel that leadership listens to their concerns, or those of colleagues.

The research also looked at socioeconomic shifts, with rising supply chain costs seen as the most disruptive issue over the last 12 months for 68% of oil and gas respondents.
