The latest professional services market research published by Vodafone and the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) has shown that allowing flexible working benefits UK businesses significantly.

Based on the opinions of 3,000 workers in Britain, the study found that flexible working not only boosts the career development prospects of employees, but it could also save businesses billions of pounds.

Flexible working gives workers an extra five hours a week of increased productivity, which in addition to the benefit of cost reductions could see UK firms saving up to £8.1 billion.

The majority of the survey respondents at 77% currently work in organisations that offer some form of flexible working, while a further 13% were either not aware that they could request to work from home at their organisation or stated they would like to work flexibly but aren't able to due to certain circumstances.

Vodafone Enterprise Director, Jeroen Hoencamp, commented on the findings: "In the global race for growth, organisations should embrace better ways of working consciously as a strategy for success as opposed to ignoring them."
