January Get Up and Go Challenge 2024

If, like us, your best intentions to leave the comfort of own sofa fell by the wayside over the festive period, you might be trying to claw your active mojo back this month. We understand that feeling all too well, which is why we were once again excited to launch our annual 'Get up and Go’ challenge this January!

We’ve been running this wellbeing challenge for almost a decade now and the premise is simple; participants sign up in their teams and set a personal target distance for the month of January which they can cover however and wherever they choose. From running on the treadmill to walking on the hills, cycling to the shops or swimming lengths at the local leisure centre – any method to cover those miles counts. ‘Get up and go-ers’ pledge their commitment to their chosen distance with a donation to our charity of the year and then, get moving!

Our wellbeing challenge is brought to life across January with weekly updates, a leaderboard to track progress and by sharing experiences and encouragement across our Teams channels. We also sprinkle in a healthy dose of competition, with a special prize for the team that clocks up the highest average miles per person (and of course the money-can’t-buy prize of bragging rights as the ‘most active team of 2024’).

Sign-ups to this year’s challenge have reached a record high and participants have already clocked up over 1,000 miles and have raised over £200 and counting for our charity of the year, Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust. Our ‘get up and go-ers’ have also been sharing some stunning photos and videos of their adventures, inspiring everyone to get out and about this month.

What better way to kick start the year than a pledge to get moving, putting wellbeing at the heart of 2024 from the outset. We can’t wait to see the final scores on the doors for miles stomped and money raised at the end of the month.

Our Get Up and Go coordinator Cara Rodwell, Field and Data Services Director, is feeling motivated and encourages everyone to keep moving:

"It’s great that so many people are getting up and going for the 2024 challenge with the miles already clocking up!  It’s a great way to get motivated to exercise and to get some fresh air (very fresh at the moment!!). I for one will be trying to keep my miles up throughout the rest of the year too so here’s to a happy walking/running/cycling/stilt walking/pogo hopping 2024 everyone!”
