DJS Research is proud to announce our involvement in a brand-new public health study on behalf of Public Health Wales NHS Trust and Bangor University, in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University; the ‘Later Life experiences in Wales’ survey.

This important piece of research has been designed to explore how later life experiences, and challenges faced in later life, impact health and well-being in Wales. The study aims to increase understanding of the effects of later life adversities, such as maltreatment, social isolation and discrimination. Findings will be used to shape and inform health policies and services to support the ageing population of Wales.

Across the next two months, our experienced team of interviewers will be conducting confidential door to door interviews with over 1,000 Welsh residents aged 60+. Households have been invited to participate in this entirely voluntary survey at random to ensure a fully representative and unbiased sample is achieved. Participants have the option to complete the survey in either English or Welsh with the full support of a trained interviewer.

The sensitive topics covered in this important survey means that the expertise of the interviewer is paramount; our highly experienced team are fully trained to handle sensitive, personal matters and will treat respondents with the utmost care and respect, guiding them through the survey and allowing for privacy as needed.

Our research team are hugely proud to be involved in this important public health project which will increase understanding of the relationship between adversity, health and well-being. The results will also provide insight into the extent to which adversities are experienced in later life across Wales – knowledge which will be invaluable in shaping future policies and support functions for older people.

Research Director Julie Hollingsworth shares her thoughts ahead of the survey launch:

We conduct a significant amount of research in Wales, including previous and other current projects for Public Health Wales, as well as for clients such as Natural Resources Wales and Cardiff University. We are really pleased to be working with Public Health Wales and their stakeholders on this important piece of research, that could make such a significant difference to the health and well-being of older people in Wales. It is hugely rewarding to know the findings will be so valuable in shaping policies and services to improve support for those affected by adversities later in life and to help prevent such adversities occurring in the first place.”
