Survey Finds South of UK Leads the Way for Saving Money

High street bank Halifax conducted a survey to discover the country’s top savers, which revealed the south of England as top when it comes to stretching their pennies.

The surveyants from London, the South East, South West and East Anglia all had bank balances above the national average. Residents in the South East were generally found to have around £6,653 tucked away. 

In total, southern regions made up 32 of the top 50 postcode areas, with London accounting for 19 of these.

Of other UK regions, 12 of the top locations for savings are in Scotland, with residents of the AB15 4 area of Aberdeen having set aside an impressive average of £26,130 of savings - the second highest ranking out of anywhere in the UK.

The highest ranked area belongs to the people of Richmond Upon Thames, who have an average of £29,765 in their nest eggs, which is 380% greater than the London average.

Only three places in the North West made it into the top 50. Macclesfield are in front with £18,134, while areas in Yorkshire, the Humber and the East Midlands also finding a position.

The North, Northern Ireland, West Midlands, Wales and East Anglia all failed to make the list.
