February 2012 - Public Consultation

A survey on behalf of the UK Gift Card & Voucher Association (UKGCVA) has revealed the gifts women don’t want, don't use and plainly find offensive on Valentine’s Day.

Top on the list for most hated presents that are guaranteed to make females frown on the 14th February are household appliances, since this is a reminder of mundane chores which are the polar opposite of romance.

In addition, contrary to popular belief, many women don’t enjoy lingerie on Valentine’s as men often buy these items two sizes too large or too small.

Also high on the list of gifts that are guaranteed to disappoint the ladies according to the study are receiving dying flowers from a service station or a card with money inside.

The fifth most hated present on the 14th February is chocolate, because reportedly males then moan that their partner is putting on weight.

All in all, the survey found that women think men show little or no imagination on Valentine’s, as well as a disappointing lack of awareness of what their partner really likes.

In response to the findings, the UKGCVA suggests that the safest bet for men so as not to end up in the dog box is a spa day or a romantic holiday break.
