For the fourth consecutive year, UK consumers in Verdict Research’s annual poll have voted department store chain John Lewis as their favourite retailer.

The market research, conducted on 6,000 people, also saw furniture giant IKEA in second place and John Lewis’s sister company Waitrose, in close pursuit at third.

John Lewis was highly rated on service in the poll - apart from Waitrose, it scored double the rating of any rival. It also scored impressively on product range and quality as well as store ambience.

In response to being named as the UK’s top retailer, Andrew Murphy, John Lewis Retail Director, commented: “For me, this award is a reflection of the trust our customers have in us, and the hard work we've put in to gain that trust. Customers know that shopping at John Lewis means they will get great quality products which are value for money, they will get great service whether they buy in our shops or online, and that if something goes wrong with a purchase, we will do all we can to put it right.”

Consulting Director of Verdict, Neil Saunders, said: “This year’s winners...reflect the fact that consumers are increasingly looking for value for money during these constrained times.”
