61% of regular overseas holidaymakers expect to holiday abroad in summer 2021: A survey of holidaymakers has found that around 3 in 5 regular travellers expect that by summer 2021 they will be able to take an holiday overseas.

However, just over a quarter have made a booking (27%).

Younger respondents were found to be more optimistic about being able to take an overseas holiday this summer, with 72% of 18 to 24 year-olds expecting to go by the end of September, compared to 64% of 25 to 24 year-olds; 59% of 35 to 44 year-olds, and 50% of people aged 45 and over.

The UK Tourism Confidence Survey by Travioso.com polled an online panel of 200 UK adults on the 11th & 12th January 2021. It found that optimism for a UK holiday was higher, with 68% of regular domestic holidaymakers expecting that by summer they will be able to take a holiday in the UK -- although just 23% have already booked.

When it comes to a holiday in the UK before September 2021, over three-quarters of 18 to 24 year-olds expect to be able to go (77%), compared to two-thirds (67%) of 25 to 34 year-olds, 68% of 35 to 44 year-olds and 60% of holidaymakers aged 45+.

When looking at Google searches this January compared to last January, the survey found that interest in package holidays and cruises has fallen by 23%.

Covid-19 restrictions

The survey also found that overseas holiday seekers expect many of the current restrictions to guard against Covid-19 will still be in place when they take their next holiday. Two-thirds (67%) expect to have to wear a mask, while 65% think social distancing will still be enforced. Pre-travel covid testing is also expected by 63%, while 43% think that they will have to quarantine on their return home.
