According to a recent TripAdvisor survey, holiday makers should head for the Canary Islands for the cheapest family winter break.

Based on prices for a week long holiday for family of four, the cheapest islands to visit are Fuerteventura and Tenerife whilst Turks and Caicos, in the Caribbean, was among the most expensive destinations.

The survey factored in costs of rented accommodation, car rental, one meal out and groceries. The survey compared the total cost of 29 destinations.

The total cost for all of the variables in Fuerteventura was £525 and in Tenerife, £574. On the other end of the scale, Turks and Caicos costed £3,952 overall and Barbados £2,095.

Alternative low-cost destinations included Goa, which costed £606, Sharm el Skeikh (£608), Lanzarote (£645) and Marrakech (£633).

Further expensive destinations included The Cayman Islands (1,753), Jamaica (£1,641) and Dubai (£1,641).

It can be seen from the findings that more than ten weeks in Goa, India, for a family of four costs a similar amount of money as one week in Turks and Caicos.
