Over-40s more adventurous with holiday choices: A survey looking at the travel habits of people over-40 has found almost a third feel they are now more adventurous when it comes to travel than they were when they were younger.

The poll of 2,000 commissioned by travel and reference guide publisher, Rough Guides, also revealed the average person in their 40s has seven countries outstanding on their must-see travel list with 6 in 10 already having their 2019 holiday booked.

It also found that almost half of the forty-somethings polled now enjoy more getaways than ever before, with 60% saying it is because they have more disposable income.

For a quarter of respondents, travel has become easier since their children have become older and 45% attribute their additional trips to having more time available.

Four in ten said having a life that felt ‘simpler’ has allowed them to embark on more travel adventures while the same percentage has taken four weeks or more off from work to 'go travelling' - visiting a selection of destinations.

Top of the travel bucket list for travellers over 40 were New Zealand, Canada and Australia, with respondents also admitting they had only actually visited 25% of the places they dreamed of.

Editor of Rough Guides, Aimee White said: " The world is more accessible than ever before, and as a result, holidays are something many people can enjoy. Many of us have a wishlist of places we want to visit and some even have multiple holidays planned – at least in their heads even if they don’t yet have the funds to book it.”
