Survey reveals the things that Brits value most: A survey asking Brits about the things, people and institutions they value most in life has revealed time spent with family is the most precious.

The Travelodge survey polled 1,500 British adults and found a variety of things made the top 50, ranging from things you’d perhaps expect to get a mention, such as friends, music and health, to smaller things that make life easier, such as 'meal deals', 'a fair price for beer', and being able to park outside your home.

After family time at the top of the chart (44%), a happy home life came in second (43%), closely followed by good physical (41%) and mental health (38%).

For more than a third (35%), faithfulness in a relationship was highly valued, along with laughing with friends (35%) and honesty (34%).

The NHS, trustworthy friends, politeness and parents also featured in the poll, each being selected by a third (33%) of respondents.

Things that we may often take for granted such as clean water from the tap (30%), nature (23%), freedom of speech (19%) and education (14%) were given a mention, as well as 'a good cup of tea' (22%), which perhaps is not too surprising for a nation of tea-lovers.

Changing values

Nine out of ten (91%) Brits felt than the nation’s values have changed over time, with 41% believing community means less to us now than it once did, and 59% saying today’s society is completely immersed in a digital world.

More than a quarter said that the expectations for our lives today are much higher than they were for our parents’ generation, while 31% admitted they desire more from their life than they feel their own parents did/do.
