A third of British adults are not confident they know what 'full fibre' broadband is: A survey of British adults has revealed that 32% still are not confident at defining what 'full fibre' is when it comes to broadband, an increase of five percentage points when the same question was asked last year (27%).

The research by internet service provider, Zen Internet, polled 2,001 people in the UK who were 16 years and above. The survey also revealed that even amongst the people who do feel they can define what full fibre is, just a third (33%) were able to select the correct definition when presented with possible options.

When it comes to the age groups which are most informed about what ‘full fibre' means, the older demographic fared better, with 37% of those aged 55 and over being able to identify the correct definition, compared to 29% of millennial respondents.

The survey revealed that more than a quarter of respondents (28%) have an increasing lack of confidence when it comes to keeping up with industry jargon, with two-thirds saying that there is 'too much' jargon in the broadband industry for the average consumer to understand.

Paul Stobart, CEO at Zen Internet, said:

“Prevailing misconceptions and growing confusion amongst consumers could be holding them back from getting the most out of their connectivity. This [survey] shows a pressing need for providers to help educate customers’ broadband literacy, as well as stripping out the unnecessary jargon, so consumers can have the confidence they are making the most of their services.”
