More than half house hunters polled said a 'fast reliable internet connection' is a priority when buying a new home: A survey of house hunters has found that 53% consider 'fast, reliable internet' a priority when they are looking for a new home - which increased to 93% when asked the same question after the coronavirus pandemic began.

The research by TalkTalk also found that more than six in 10 people (62%) would not even consider buying a property unless they could guarantee a 'strong, reliable internet connection'.

Having a good internet connection was ranked third in a list of desirable property attributes, following a garden, which was the number one desirible feature for three-quarters of respondents (75%), and 'a quiet road' (56%).

Connectivity (53%) was ranked ahead of double glazing (46%), friendly neighbours (40%), nearby shops (36%), and good transport links (35%).

When asked what was the most important task for new homeowners when moving to their new property, setting up their internet was the top answer given (67%), followed by putting up photos and decor (66%), painting the walls (65%), buying new furniture (62%), and  meeting the new neighbours (61%).

The survey revealed that a quarter of participants expect to work from home more often, following covid (24%), with 45% saying they need well-performing internet 24 hours a day - an increase from 34% pre-covid.
