More than half of UK respondents believe 5G has potential to improve daily life: A survey of adults in the UK has revealed insight into how people feel about 5G and how it might benefit the day-to-day life of users. The research found that 53% believe it has the potential to improve their day-to-day lives.

The survey by Vodafone polled 2,000 UK adults, and also asked respondents which sectors would be most transformed by 5G. Almost a third of respondents selected healthcare (31%) as the sector they believe would be transformed the most, with a fifth (21%) saying utilities like energy and water. Railways were also identified as a key sector where positive change may be likely to occur (20%). The survey also highlighted that these sectors were also the areas respondents felt the most frustrated with over the past 12 months.

The research also found that people felt more confident about 5G improving their day-to-day lives than AI or drones.

Younger people more open to tech

Younger people were found to be more open to the technology, with almost three-quarters of 18-34 year-olds saying they can see how 5G has the potential to improve their daily life, compared to less than a third of 55 to 64-year-olds.

Ahmed Essam, Vodafone’s UK CEO, said: “Our research shows that half of the population think that technology could make their lives easier. For the other half, it’s up to us to bring to life the difference technologies like 5G Ultra can make to everyday life – the streets we walk down, the trains we travel on and how we look after one another.
