Seven in 10 UK businesses are either using or plan to use 5G services in the near future, reveals survey

Seven in 10 UK businesses are either using or plan to use 5G services in the near future: A survey into the effects of using 5G networks on different industries within the UK has uncovered that 70% of businesses are either already using 5G networks, or plan to use them soon. However, many cited 'cost' as a major barrier to implementing 5G services.

 

There are many further obstacles stopping more companies from implementing 5G services, according to the study, with 53% saying that their organisation does not have enough knowledge to use 5G solutions effectively. On the other hand, 63% cite the complexity and cost of infrastructure, installation, and integration as the main challenges when looking at moving towards 5G services.

 

The study by Coleman Parkes polled around 300 IT Decision Makers earlier this year, with respondents working within the Creative industries, Manufacturing, Transport and Logistics, and Health and Social Care. The businesses from which the respondents worked for had an average of 590 employees.

 

When asked about the main reasons for their company’s move towards using 5G networks, two-thirds said it would help them achieve their corporate sustainability goals. Furthermore, seven in 10 said they hope it will give them an advantage over their competitors, with 65% thinking it will give their customers a better experience.

 

However, some companies said they need further incentives before committing to 5G solutions, with two-thirds reporting that industry-specific benefits could help them to invest.

 

Bob Driver, head of UK5G, said: "5G, along with other forms of advanced communications, has the potential to transform business models, generate new revenue streams by unleashing the Internet of Things, and give organisations new insights through data that enable them to improve the service they provide for customers."
