International logistics is top concern for logistics industry: A survey of members of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT UK) has revealed that more than eight in 10 respondents believe that international logistics is the primary concern when it comes to protecting future supply.

When asked what changes were needed to ensure supply stays protected in future, 82% said 'international risk management', followed by 'risk management' (63%) and 'manufacturing' (45%).

More than 50 supply chain member organisations were polled for the research by the UK’s leading membership organisation for professionals working in logistics, transport and their associated supply chains.

The survey asked respondents about the major challenges they have faced during the pandemic, with 62% saying they have faced challenges. A shortfall in available staff was stated by 63.5% of respondents, while more than half said they have experienced warehousing and distribution disruptions.

Despite the many ongoing issues faced within the sector, the survey also revealed some positive news, with optimism levels for the year ahead running high. Seven out of 10 (70%) respondents said that they expect things to go back to how they were before Covid within 12 months. Fewer than one in 10 (9%), however, believed they would be back to pre-pandemic levels in the next three months.

When asked about the future and any precautions that have been taken to guard against any similar occurrences in the future, more than 72.5% reported that they have a strategy in place.

Kevin Richardson, chief executive at CILT (UK), said: "Every corner of the profession has experienced disruption during the pandemic, but it was encouraging to see a large number are looking toward a quick recovery."
