The latest survey of more than 10,000 Britonsby comparison website Which? has shown that despite the ‘Big Six’ energy companies dominating 98% of the UK market, they are being beaten hands down by Green providers when it comes to consumer satisfaction.

Renewable energy supplier Good Energy has been crowned top for the second year running with an 85% satisfaction rating, and scored particularly well in the areas of customer service as well as energy efficiency advice.

In contrast, Big Six suppliers fared markedly less well – EDF Energy only got a 46% satisfaction score, while Npower scored just 39%.

Only two of the Big Six companies even made it to the Top Ten list for satisfaction - British Gas and Scottish Power were placed in joint 9th position.

Furthermore, the study found that energy prices are the top financial concern for consumers, and a majority of the surveyants at 54% claimed they don’t trust energy companies.

Which? Executive Director, Richard Lloyd, commented on the survey findings: “Yet again customers have told us they are fed up with the way the biggest energy companies treat them, but the complexity of energy tariffs makes it hard to shop around.”

He added: “The Government’s energy reforms need to go much further to increase competition so that suppliers are under pressure to raise their game and keep their prices in check. We want the switching process to be quicker and for energy prices to be set out in a way that allows people to spot the cheapest deal at a glance.”
