Today was a historic day for the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority as Mayor Oliver Coppard announced their decision to progress with a Bus Franchising Scheme in the region; a decision informed and led by the outputs of a large-scale public consultation programme conducted by DJS Research.

Our Public Sector Consultation Unit (PSCU) were involved at every stage of this significant statutory consultation, one of the largest of its kind, which saw almost 8,000 stakeholders and members of the public have their say on this important infrastructure change. The independent scope of DJS Research encompassed both the design and execution of this consultation, through to analysis of the findings, and production of a detailed report for the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority which has since been published.

The final report, which informed this landmark decision, included thematic analysis of all responses by our own in-house team of coders, working to rigorous quality procedures; this independent analysis, ensuring all voices are heard and represented in the results, is a vital part of any consultation process and a particular area of expertise for DJS Research.

Large-scale consultations are second nature to our public sector team, who have a wealth of experience delivering public surveys of this size and importance, including a similar consultation on behalf of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority last year.

Research Director and PSCU lead Matt Bristow reflected on the experience of working with the South Yorkshire team; "We are hugely proud to have supported SYMCA in all stages of public engagement and are pleased that our robust analysis has helped the Mayor make this important decision on the future of bus services in the South Yorkshire region".
