Cartoon newspaperA third of people in the UK trust news media 'most of the time' finds global survey: A survey of people in the UK looking at attitudes towards the media has revealed that just a third of Brits trust the media 'most of the time' (33%) which sees the UK rank in 36th place for trust out of the 46 countries polled, just ahead of the United States (32%).

Ranking first in the table was Finland with 69% of respondents saying they trust the news media most of the time, followed by Kenya (63%) and Portugal (58%). 

The survey displayed on the Statista website polled 2,000 respondents aged 18 and over in 46 locations around the globe between January and February 2023. 

Also making up the top ten was Nigeria (57%), Denmark (57%), Netherlands (57%), South Africa (57%) and Norway (53%) as well as Thailand (51%) and Sweden (50%). 

At the bottom of the table was Greece with just 19% of people surveyed agreeing that they trust the news media 'most of the time', alongside Hungary (25%), Slovakia (27%), Bulgaria (28%) and Taiwan (28%).

Looking at the bigger picture, the study highlights that Scandinavians have the greatest trust in the media, with all four countries ranking in the top 10. 

The research also highlighted that social media is viewed as the least reliable source of news globally, while in the EU, TV and radio are considered more dependable. In the UK the survey found that BBC One is the most used news source, while TV is seen as the most impartial news platform. The least impartial news platform in the UK according to survey respondents is social media.
