Survey reveals top average salaries of marketing professionals, with entertainment on top: A survey of people working in marketing has revealed the average salaries of marketers according to sector, with entertainment ranking top in 2021.

The 2021 Career and Salary Survey was conducted by Marketing Week and looked at salaries across 23 sectors.  Salaries were calculated using full-time basic annual rates (over 35 hours per week) and not including bonuses.

It found that salaries in entertainment has increased for marketers by almost a third (32%) since last year, to £73,700, making it the best-paid sector for marketers.

In the latest research, FMCG salaries were the second most lucrative on average (£72,000), knocking the sector from its 2020 place at the top of the chart. FMCG salaries rose by 13% from last year, according to the poll.

The third best paid sector was beauty (£72,00), with salaries increasing by 45% on 2020, followed by financial services (£69,200).

Industry or trade bodies were found to have the lowest pay on average for marketers (£45,800), followed by education (£50,000) and the public sector (£50,700).

The survey also revealed the average salary by seniority, with a Chief Marketing Officer earning an average of £144,000, followed by £102,700 for a marketing director/vice president. Amongst those who described themselves as a senior manager or department manager, the average salary was £65,100, while a manager or team manager earned £50,400. Junior managers earned £37,400, followed by senior executive (£35,600), executive (£27,400) and marketing assistant (£24,100).
