Voluntary Market Research

We have undertaken numerous projects within the charitable and voluntary sector covering a wide range of organisation types. This includes:

  • Domestic charities
  • Overseas aid charities
  • Voluntary groups and associations
  • Suppliers to voluntary groups and third sector bodies
  • Organisations funded by a mix of governmental funding and charitable funding

We feel that our experience in the voluntary and third sector demonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of the requirements of voluntary organisations' research needs across a wide range of industries and with a multitude of respondents and stakeholders. The quality of our research is supported by the fact that we have provided research outputs to the government, to 10 Downing Street, and that we have been invited to present jointly with our clients at leading academic institutions.

Some of the clients DJS Research have worked for in the voluntary sector include:

We have conducted both qualitative and quantitative research touching on various different audiences including:

  • Time donors
  • Money donors
  • Campaigners
  • Vulnerable groups within society (for example, the homeless, elderly communities, those with a life threatening illnesses, BAME communities)

''Having never used a market research company before we have been really pleased with the way that DJS have guided us through the process and worked with us to ensure that we achieved our objectives. They completed depths & an audit interview along with a national survey, representing both us and our funders in an extremely professional way.''  Young Epilepsy

Our work in this sector has utilized a wide variety of techniques. Some examples are outlined below:

  • Research for an organization in the heritage sector who wished to understand what visitors thought of its annual country fair
  • Qualitative and quantitative research amongst teachers to understand awareness and usage of teaching resources provided by a charity
  • Research for a healthcare charity to understand attitudes towards volunteering and awareness of its brand amongst consumers
  • Research for a Sector Skills Council looking at attitudes towards their offer amongst CEOs and HR Managers in PCTs
  • Quantitative research for a UK based charity conducting research amongst the general public to assess awareness of the blood and organ donor scheme. Research is conducted on an ongoing basis and results are sent to No. 10 Downing St. Our work in this area has been reported on BBC News, and a portion of a relevant video feature is available here, via our YouTube channel. Additionally, for the full version of the video, click here.
  • Research for an overseas aid charity to understand brand positioning and issues around maximising time and money donations
  • Research on behalf of one of the UK and the world's largest cultural development organisations in to diaspora communities in the east of Europe and the Middle East
  • Research for a leading UK cancer charity in to the reasons their volunteers and donors choose to support them, their knowledge of the brand and their relationship with other charities
  • An annual awareness tracker for a major sector-specific charity in the UK, focussing on awareness of the brand among workers in the relevant sector and their knowledge of what the charity offers, how the charity can be contacted and how they felt about the charity as an organisation.

"Having looked at a number of research organisations DJS stood out as a company who are proven within the research industry and are able to produce high quality reports that can be submitted to Government. We were looking for a quality organisation to work with us and we found that in DJS." Jeanette Crizzle Trust
